Q&A
Does Turbo Pik Snail upload my images?
Never. Processing runs in-browser, on-device, and files do not leave your device.
Why use WebAssembly here?
Some formats like HEIC/HEIF are not reliably decodable in all browsers natively. WebAssembly support keeps conversion local while expanding compatibility.
Why can AVIF be unavailable sometimes?
AVIF output is enabled only when your browser can encode it. The tool checks support at runtime.
Why can Squoosh convert to AVIF when this app cannot?
This app currently uses your browser encoder for output, so AVIF depends on browser encode support. Squoosh bundles AVIF codecs with WebAssembly, so it can encode AVIF even when browser-native encoding is missing.
Can converted files become bigger?
Yes. Lossless or near-lossless settings can increase output size depending on the source format and quality target.
